چکیده

Background: Xanthine Oxidase activity may increase plasma urates, superoxide radicals and hydrogen peroxide leading to gout, arthritis cancer. Allopurinol, a known inhibitor, is noted have various adverse effects. Many laboratories are in research projects find alternative inhibitors of XO including plant sources. Plants contain therapeutically effective agents. A. senegalensis, M. sapientum L Pumila reported phytochemicals with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory enzyme inhibitory activities. Methods: Aqueous extracts Root bark peels pumila were assayed for their effects on oxidase vitro Results: All aqueous exhibited the presence flavonoids. senegalensis root M investigated activity. bark, peel inhibited by 83%, 90% 61% respectively as which significantly different (p <0.05) from that positive control, allopurinol (65%) Conclusions: The results obtained this study suggest flavonoids found could be potential inhibitors.

Talinum triangulare leaf and Musa sapientum peel extracts as corrosion inhibitors on ZA-27 Alloy

With the current emergence of green chemistry to keep the environment safe, attention is being shifted towards using plant extracts as corrosion inhibitors. The inhibitive performances of Talinum triangulare leaf extract and Musa sapientum peel extract on the ZA-27 in 1.0 M and 1.5 M hydrochloric acid solutions were studied for 18 days using mass loss measurement. The corrosion inhibition effic...

Antimicrobial Effects of a Lipophilic Fraction and Kaurenoic Acid Isolated from the Root Bark Extracts of Annona senegalensis

Root bark preparation of Annona senegalensis Pers. (Annonaceae) is used in Nigerian ethnomedicine for treatment of infectious diseases. Extraction of the A. senegalensis powdered root bark with methanol-methylene chloride (1 : 1) mixture yielded the methanol-methylene extract (MME) which was fractionated to obtain the ethyl acetate fraction (EF). The EF on further fractionation gave two active ...

In vitro micropropagation of Musa sapientum L. (Cavendish Dwarf)

A complete protocol for micropropagation of Musa sapientum using shoot meristems was developed. Multiple shoots were induced in vitro from shoot meristems. Murashige and Skoog’s medium supplemented with BAP and NAA (3.0 + 0.2 mg/l, respectively) was found to be most suitable combination. Further multiplication of shoots required habituation of cultures up to 3 passages of 21 days each on the sa...

Study of Banana Peel (Musa sapientum) as a Cationic Biosorbent

The efficacy of the Banana peel (Musa sapientum) biomass was tested for the removal of lead, copper, zinc and nickel metal ions using batch experiments in single and binary metal solution under controlled experimental conditions. It is found that metal sorption increases when the equilibrium metal concentration rises. At highest experimental solution concentration used (150 mg/L), the removal o...

Antioxidant properties and xanthine oxidase inhibitory effects of Tamus communis L. root extracts.

This study was conducted to search for xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitors from the root extracts of Tamus communis L. traditionally used in folk medicine in Algeria. Root extracts with different solvents were screened for purified milk xanthine oxidase inhibition. The root extracts (methanol, chloroform and ethyl acetate) and proteins, obtained in distilled water, inhibited bovine, sheep and huma...
